Welcome

A warm welcome awaits you at RAF Benson Community Primary School.

I am extremely proud to lead a team that is committed to providing the very best opportunities for the children who attend RAF Benson Primary. Staff, supported by governors and the local community, work hard to deliver a rich and challenging curriculum; to prepare children for future education; and to help them acquire the skills and enthusiasm needed to pursue learning for the rest of their lives.

We are a Local Authority school situated in the heart of the base at RAF Benson. Although almost 100% of our roll are Service children; our school is open to all children in the local area regardless of whether they have a family member in the military. Arrangements can be made for non-service families to gain access to the school.

For those families moving in from another part of the country or from another country, we understand all the anxieties that a military posting can bring and we have clear systems in place to make your child’s transition from one school to ours as seamless as possible. Our dedicated Pastoral Support Officer, in liaison with other adults working in school, ensures that your child settles well into school and regularly liaises with teachers and parents in the aim to mitigate any negative impact of mobility or deployment. Support is also given to those children who have a parent away from the home on deployment and more information about all we provide can be found on our pastoral page: https://www.raf-benson.oxon.sch.uk/support-for-your-child/

We had quite an interesting Ofsted inspection in September 2022 and I would encourage you to read about our experience on our website in addition to the report as it gives the context of the visit (https://www.raf-benson.oxon.sch.uk/ofsted-report-september-2022/).  We were pleased that the inspectors recognised our ambition for all children through our well-planned curriculum and that what we do to support children’s’ personal development and independence is a strength of the school. We were delighted that all areas having a direct impact on our children were deemed good. The Local Authority have supported the view that we are a good school and we have had a number of reviews and evaluations of our school since our inspection to confirm our self evaluation of being good.

We have refreshed our School Vision, Aims and Values to reflect our high expectations and aspirations for your child and this can be found by here .

Our website aims to give you a flavour of what our children get up to at our school as well as providing updated information for both parents and children; however, nothing beats a visit to see our children at work and hear how much they enjoy being part of our school.

If you are moving to the area and would like to apply for a place at our school, please complete our Pre-Admissions Form which can be found with other information here. Please do not worry if you have not heard from the Local Authority, if you contact us we can let you know if we have spaces in the year groups your children need and whether we can offer your child a place - the answer usually is yes! Our wrap around care is provided by the very popular Station Spring Nursery and we are working with them to increase their capacity enabling everyone who wants and needs a place to have one.

Should you wish to have further information about our wonderful school, please do not hesitate in contacting us where we would be very happy to help.

We look forward to working in partnership with you to realise your child’s dreams and aspirations and we look forward to meeting you.
