Spring 2 Our Changing Planet

Our Changing Planet!

We are geography-led this term, further developing our understanding of seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom, and the location of hot and cold areas of the World in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles. We will then link this to key human features and land use around the school whilst developing our map-making skills.

Science takes us into the world of plants, learning what they need to germinate and grow healthily.

Linking across both subjects, we will be thinking about the bigger question of how our changing planet is impacting the survival needs and biodiversity of our habitats with a focus on plants – a theme which is picked up on within English, with a series of texts highlighting the need to be aware of how people impact, and can support, our environment.

Inspired vocab

Gazelle Class were inspired by our new English text, "The Window" by Jeannie Baker, working as a class to generate words linked to the pictures and evolving story, before selecting their own preferred words with which to plan their writing.

Looking closer

The children are loving using our lovely microscopes, on loan from the Royal Microscopical Society. They have been learning how to use them to focus up close on provided specimens, before we move onto seeds and plants for our science this term.
