Exploring Europe

Exploring Europe

Welcome to the first term of Year 4!

This year’s first term has a Geographic focus. We will be learning about the countries that make up the United Kingdom and developing our map skills using Ordnance Survey maps. We will go on to compare a specific region of the United Kingdom and that of Syddanmark, in Denmark.

In English, we will focus on texts written by Hans Christian Anderson, a Danish author, and understand the key elements required to be able to write a narrative. Our Art lessons will first focus on notable British artists before exploring Scandinavian art, offering opportunity for the children to create their own works.

In Science, the initial topic will be Electricity. We will begin by learning about how electrical appliances are powered and consider the potential dangers associated with electricity. Next, the Children will have the opportunity to create their own simple electrical circuits by identifying and utilising fundamental components.

For more information about our learning this term, please have a look at our topic web and knowledge organiser.
