Footprints of the Past

Footprints of the Past

As Scientists we will:

Compare and group together different types of rocks on the basis of their appearance and physical properties. We will also describe and find out how fossils are formed along with learning that soils are made from rocks and organic matter

As geographers and historians we will:

Learn about river valley civilizations, late Neolithic hunter-gatherers and early farmers, for example Skara Brae. We are also going to be looking at the Bronze Age religion, technology and travel – Stonehenge. We will also look at some prehistoric animals along with our earliest ancestors and what they needed in order to survive.

As artists and engineers, we will:

Study a variety of Stone Age cave paintings. We will be telling our stories through these along with creating hand stencils using a variety of artistic methods.

As readers and writers, we will:

Look at the text ‘Ug the Stone Age boy’ as this links in with our Topic. We will be writing narratives and play scripts from this text. We will also be looking at the picture book ‘Fossil’ as this will inspire us to write letters and arguments (discussion texts) from balanced viewpoints.
