This term, Apache have lots of exciting and interesting subjects to study.
Here are some highlights of what we will be learning …
In history, this term we will be studying the Anglo Saxons. We will start this learning by recapping previous periods in history on a timeline and introduce where Anglo Saxons fit into this. We will study their every day life. After that, we will then be learning about the Roman withdrawal from Britain and the fall of the western empire before focusing on the Scots invasion from Ireland to North Britain as well as the Anglo-Saxon invasion.
In English this half term, our learning will be linked to the Anglo Saxons where our writing will be linked to our class text of Winter of the Wolves. We will be writing a narrative linked to this text. After that, we will be produce a persuasive leaflet encouraging others to visit Hillend following our school residential. Additionally, we will be continuing to develop grammar, punctuation and spelling. For spelling, in addition the Year 3/4 Common Exception Words, we will be focusing on proof reading plus learning about prefixes, apostrophes for possession and homophones.
In D&T this half term, we will be joining and exploring textiles and designing and creating a bag suitable for an Anglo-Saxon.
In maths, we will start this term by continuing with our topic of decimals. We will initially consolidate our learning of this topic so far and will then be learning how to compare and order decimals, rounding to the nearest whole and exploring halves and quarters.
Following this, we will then move onto learning about money. This will include writing money as decimals, converting between pounds and pence and calculating with it. Following this, our topic will be time. In addition to this, we will also be continuing to practice times tables regularly in readiness for the Year 4 times tables test on the computer in June.
Our science topic this half term will be ‘Working Scientifically’. We will explore this concept by developing the children’s skills in planning, conducting, and evaluating experiments. They'll learn to make predictions, gather data, and draw conclusions from their findings. This term, students will focus on using a variety of scientific tools to measure and observe the world around them whilst learning how to ask questions, record results accurately, and communicate their observations effectively. By the end of the term, students will have a deeper understanding of how scientists work, and they will be able to approach scientific investigations with curiosity, precision, and critical thinking.
