Chinook Class
Welcome to the Chinook class page. We are very excited to welcome you all back to school after the summer break. We have a wonderful and exciting year ahead and we hope you're ready!
Staff this year are as follows:
Class Teacher – Mr. Havelock.
Teaching Assistant – Mrs. Hill.
Reading
Being able to read is a vital life skill and helps us in many ways. From deepening understanding, increasing creativity and expanding your memory, reading can enhance these skills and many more. We recommend that children spend 15-20 minutes reading daily to embed these skills and we will be checking your child's reading log regularly. Parents, make sure that you discuss the book with your child – ask them to summarise the story, describe the characters/plot along with any words that they are unsure of etc as this will ensure their understanding.
Drink and snack
Hydration is key for your body and its organs so we would like all children to have a water bottle in class (this can be used for lunch too) to have regular access to water throughout the day. Please make sure your child comes to school with their daily break-time snack to re-energise and increase focus in their lessons.
PE Kits and Clothing
PE kits need to be in school on a Monday and taken home on a Friday to be washed. Please make sure ALL of your child’s clothing has a CLEAR name written/sewn/ironed onto. It is much easier to locate if it goes missing.
Home Learning
Home Learning is a fantastic way to learn something new, revisit previous learning or try something different. English and Maths tasks will be set on a Monday and will need to be handed back in school by Thursday morning. This gives a chance to mark the homework and provide feedback by the following Monday. If you have any queries regarding homework, please contact us and we would be happy to help.
Spellings will be handed out on a Monday and you will have a week to practice them for a test the following day. each test will be conducted in school in our spelling books The words that are set will be 10 - 12 words from our spelling curriculum which follows particular sounds and themes at a Year 6 level.

Maths lesson Friday 18th February
Today, we will be solving two-step problems in algebra!
We will be looking at problems such as this:
2a + b = 14 and this equation will have multiple answers.
To remind you: 2 x a + b = 14. Start with the inverse of 14 - b, which must equal something times by 2.
This could be:
2 x 6 (a) = 12 + 2 (b) = 14
2 x 5 (a) = 10 + 4 (b) = 14
2 x 4 (a) = 8 + 4 (b) = 14
Please look through the PowerPoint and have a go at the questions.
You may choose between mild, spicy and hot activities today.
Thank you
