Autumn Term 2 - Va Va Voom!

VA VA VOOM!

This term our 'Va Va Voom!' topic will allow us to go back in time and learn about how transport has changed and developed over the years. Children will learn about the Wright Brothers and the invention of the airplane, as well as George Stephenson and the invention of the steam train. They will think about how their work developing different transport has had an effect on people's lifestyles, such as their holiday destinations.

Our English focus this term will be writing biographies about the Wright Brothers. They will compare biographies and stories and look at the similarities and differences in text features.

As a class we will then be learning about 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens, acting it out for our Christmas Production and using it to inspire some writing from different perspectives.

In science children will be developing their knowledge of different materials, their properties and suitability for purposes. They will have the opportunity to carry out different scientific enquiries, investigating materials that float, fly and keep passengers safe.

Children will then get to become designers themselves, using their new knowledge of different materials and equipment to design and create their own futuristic vehicle. They will learn about how a wheel and axis works and use them in their creations.

In the build up to Christmas, children will use their art sessions to create fantastic festive gifts as part of our Christmas fundraiser. We hope you like them!
