Lights! Camera! Action!

Lights! Camera! Action!

Geography

Our humanities topic this term will be geography based.

All of our geography lessons this term will be around the locations of children’s films. We will start by exploring the islands that surround Great Britain through the film ‘Brave’. We will look at the locations that inspired the film and compare the lives of children living there to those of children living on other small islands around the world. After this, we will focus on films located near the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. We will look at the environments shown in these film locations and how their geographical place on Earth affects them.  Next, we will look at the different types of places people choose to live with a specific focus on why people may choose to live in cities over other locations. Finally, we will look at the origins of the main ethnic groups in our class and school.

Art and DT

This half term we will be focusing on ‘Pencil vs Camera’ art. This type of art was developed by the artist Ben Heine.  We will first look at Ben Heine’s life and evaluate pieces of his artwork. We will the use Ben’s artwork as inspiration for our own works created in his style. To do this we will create mood boards, initial sketches and final designs.

During this topic, we will also use a camera to take images to use in our own artwork, focusing on how to take a clear, well thought about image.

NEWSFLASH

As you may be aware, the Year 3/4 Easter production will take place at the end of this term. The children will be rehearsing in school however we would greatly appreciate any support you can give at home by helping your child learn lines or songs.

Thank you.
