Spring Term 1 - Chocolate Dulce

During this topic, Year 4 will be exploring the origins of chocolate from bean to bar, looking at where and how it is grown and harvested and what process it goes through, as well as Fair Trade. We will also learn more about the history of chocolate, tracing it back to the Ancient Aztec and Mayan civilisations and looking at how chocolate first spread across Europe, becoming the popular treat it is today.

In science, we will be investigating sound and carrying out investigations exploring vibrations, pitch and volume. Additionally, the children will have the opportunity to make their own musical instruments, which they can use for making their own jingles to promote their own chocolate bars.

In computing, the children will conduct their own research which they will present in the form of graphs and then design and create their own eye-catching chocolate bar wrappers.

As our class text is 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', we will also be going to the Roald Dahl museum to learn more about the life and inspirations of this significant children's author.
