Northern Lights

Northern Lights

This term, as winter draws in, we will be looking at Light and Dark throughout our learning.

In English, we will be looking at the wonderful story of 'The Night Box'. Through this we will be learning all about poetic and descriptive writing devices and we will practice applying them in our own story and poetry writing, as we consider what might happen if 'The Day Box' was opened.

In science, we will be finding out about how light travels and how this helps us to see. We will also be exploring shadows including how they are formed and what makes them change size or shape.

In design and technology, we will be designing our own lanterns. We will be developing our cutting skills using different tools to produce lanterns that create patterns on the walls when a light shines from within them.

In geography, we will find out all about the beautiful natural phenomenon that is 'The Northern Lights'. In our lessons we will journey to the country of Iceland, drawing comparisons between the climate, economy and environment of this beautiful country and our own.

We have been practicing our hole-making skills and investigating materials in D&T.
