This term, Apache have lots of exciting and interesting subjects to study.
Here are some highlights of what we will be learning …
In history, this term we will be studying the Ancient Egyptians. We will start this learning by looking at other Ancient Civilisations and how the dates compare with Ancient Egypt. We will look at what was happening in Britain at this time. Following this we will learn about the location and key features of Ancient Egypt. We will look at an Egyptian working calendar then hieroglyphics. Towards the end of this topic, we will learn about the significance and purpose of pyramids.
In English this half term, our learning will be linked to history where we will look at Egyptian Mythology to create a fact file. We will also be looking in depth at Howard Carter and write a biography on him.
Additionally, we will be continuing to develop grammar, punctuation and spelling. For spelling, in addition the Year 3/4 Common Exception Words, we will be focusing on proof reading plus learning about the prefixes ‘-cian’, ‘-sion’, ’-tion’ and ‘-ssion’.
In maths, we will start this term by continuing with our fractions where we will look at equivalent fact families then start to add and subtract fractions. Following this, we will cover decimals looking at tenths as fractions and decimals and then looking how to divide fractions by 10 and 100. We will use both number lines and place value charts to support this learning. In addition to this learning, we will be continuing to improve our times tables through Times Table Rockstars.
Our science topic this half term will be ‘Sound’. We will start by focussing on how sounds are made by looking at what is a sound vibration is and what’s inside your ear. Following on from this, we will be working scientifically analysing whether the size of the pinna affect the volume of the sound. Later on, in this half term we will learn about pitch and volume.
