  • He is back! Our VIS returns from deployment.

    Sat 27 Feb 2016

It seems such a long time ago when our VIS was deployed to Afghanistan with Wing Commander Mahon and this week we saw the return of both Wing Commander Mahon and our Very Important Squirrel, George! We received many e-blueys from George whilst he was away and we heard of the adventures he had in our special assembly this week. Wing Commander Mahon handed George back over to one of our children to take back to his friends in the Wessex Room. George is now having a few weeks off and awaiting his next assignment.

Thank you Wing Commander Mahon for looking after George so very well and helping him with his adventures.

We wonder where George will be off to next....?

All visitors will need to check-in at the RAF Guardroom before joining the event so please allow extra time for these formalities.  To ease traffic onto the Station we ask parents to car share where possible and also stagger their arrival times for the later age groups.  Cars are to be moved from the entrance car park to one of the designated race car parks.

To speed up the booking in process this year, please let your child's school know if your child is attending and the names of the adults accompanying your child along with their car details – make, model, registration and colour.

All runners will be welcome on the day, whether their names are on the list or not but booking in will be a slower process.

Please NoteAll adults (whether pre-booked in or not) will require valid photo ID to enter RAF Benson, a photo card driving licence or passport are currently the only acceptable forms of identification.  Without one of these items access will not be permitted to RAF Benson – we do not want anyone to be turned away.  Many thanks!

Visitors are kindly requested not to bring dogs to the race.

  • Cross Country

    Sat 06 Feb 2016

The 12th Annual John William Stacey Memorial Cross Country Trophy Event is fast approaching!!  It will be held on the sports field, adjacent to our school, on the morning of Saturday 6th February.  A well-established event in the county cross country calendar, it is the only race held on camp, making it a very convenient venue for our children.

All children in Yrs 1-6 are warmly invited to attend, and will compete in one race alongside children from other schools.Typically, we have 200-300 runners from more than 15 schools. The races are free to enter, and the children just need to turn up in school PE kit and trainers - underlayers and joggers might be a good idea if the morning is cold! Distances and race times are below. Refreshments are kindly being sold by our PTA : bacon rolls, cakes and hot and cold drinks.

We hope to have at least 3 of our children in each race, as then the race scores can count towards the trophy! We came 3rd last year, but so far, 1st place has eluded us. The race routes are posted on the school FB page and are displayed on the wall near Mrs Fawdry's office, so please have a look. Some of the children are practising the courses during cross country sessions on Monday and Wednesday (for yrs 3-6, 12-12:30, all welcome) and during PE. Knowing where they will be running will hopefully reduce any pre-race jitters.  We hope to see many of you there, both running and cheering on our children! It is always a really enjoyable event.

If you can offer any help on the day, please contact the office. There are lots of jobs, including being a hare (running in front of the pack to show the way), and we would be grateful for any help.

Finally, are you a baker? We need lots of home-baked or store-bought goodies to sell on the day. Please bring your donations to the school office on Friday or on Saturday morning, in a named container if you would like it back. Many thanks!
