War of the Worlds

     War of the Worlds

Leading up to Christmas, those of us in Year 5 will be embarking on the Topic, 'War of the Worlds.' Below is what we we aim to cover - keep your eye out for some examples of our work by accessing the class blog!

English:

We are going to be studying the novel, ‘War of the Worlds,’ based on the novel by H.G. Wells after half term. During our English lessons we will be focussing on creative writing along with building interesting narratives for Year 6 to read and give us feedback.

Science:

In Science, we will be describing the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the sun in the solar system. We will be researching information in order to write non-chronological reports. We will be looking into the movement of the moon relative to the Earth and using the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night.

Art:

We will be listening carefully to the War of the Worlds soundtrack and creating our own album artwork. We will be using inspiration from both the music and the book to create our pieces, discussing what makes our album covers stand out to an audience.

DT:

We will be designing and creating our own sculptures of the machines from War of the Worlds out of a variety of materials. We will be using the information from the story and the soundtrack to help us make them realistic.
