The Great Debate!

During this term (Spring 1) we have been working on 'Debating', I noticed that all of the children were extremely good at arguing a point in Philosophy for Children lessons so I decided to take it further.

We looked at all of the technical terms used for the different speakers (proposition and opposition) and how to interrupt politely when you disagree with an opponent.

In addition to this we have been reading War Horse (by Michael Morpurgo) and the children have really enjoyed discussing war related issues as well as sharing their prior knowledge. So we put the two together and had a very serious and sensible debate on:

Should there ever be any wars?

Please look through the pictures below and some of the debate speeches.

Would you be on the proposition or the opposition?

Enjoy.
