Lynx - Reception & Year 1

Have a look at some of the fantastic things we have been doing....see our Topic page link at the bottom of this page...

Welcome to Lynx Class

Your teacher this year is Miss Lee and she will supported by Mrs Kinvig (teaching assistant).

We are lucky to have a mixture of Reception and Year 1 children in our class this year. We have the youngest Year 1 children and the oldest children from our Reception year, so actually we are all a similar age.

We work very closely with Mrs White (Squirrel Class Teacher) and Mrs Richards (Teaching Assistant) and Miss Trewavas (Year 1/2 Class Teacher) to ensure we provide all children with the best learning experience for their stage of development.

Important notes for Year 1 children:

Achievosaurs are our resident dinosaurs who celebrate the children’s ‘growth- mind set’ and ‘achievements . They will be handed out on Friday afternoons and the children will be able to keep them for the weekend. Please can you make sure that they are well cared for and returned to school on the Monday morning. More details about who the dinosaurs are and the different badges children will be able to collect will be sent in due course.

Reading - We love reading in Lynx Class! It is really important that you bring in your reading record every day so you can read and change books. Please also try to read for a few minutes every day at home and write it down in your reading record. Remember, there are five ways to improve your Reading; READ, READ, READ, READ and READ.

Snack - Each day, please bring a bottle of water and we will provide a piece of fruit for break time. You can also purchase a drink and snack at the tuck shop (35p per item).

PE - PE kits need to be in school from Monday to Friday because PE days often change. We will usually have P.E. on a Friday.

Homework - This will be given out every Monday and is to be returned by Thursday. It will include English and Maths work based on what we have been learning in class or what we are about to learn.

If any parents have queries we are always happy to talk before or after school.

 Important information for Reception Children:

Wow moments are those little (or huge!) achievements which happen at home. We would like to celebrate these moments with the children and school too so we will be sending home some popcorn templates for you to fill in when your child has a ‘Wow’ moment. These could be anything from getting dressed independently for the first time to reading a sentence in their book. We have a popcorn board on display and we hope to fill it with all those precious moments. Please could you send in the completed popcorn so we can add it to our board and put a copy in their Learning Journey. Once our board is filled to the brim, we will have a little reward of ‘Popcorn Cinema’ to celebrate. This will take place in the classroom at an appropriate time.

Achievosaurs are our resident dinosaurs who celebrate the children’s ‘growth- mind set’ and ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ achievements. They will be handed out on Friday afternoons and the children will be able to keep them for the weekend. Please can you make sure that they are well cared for and returned to school on the Monday morning. More details about who the dinosaurs are and the different badges children will be able to collect will be sent in due course.

Reading - This is the year you will learn to read!We will begin by teaching you the sounds written letters make and how to use these sounds to build words. We will send home some sounds for you to practise at home on Friday 28th September. When you are ready for a book, we will send one home.

Snack-The school provides you with a healthy snack and milk or water which you have time to eat during the morning. We ask that children stick to having the school snack and do not bring in one from home.

PE - PE kits need to be in school from Monday to Friday because PE days often change. We will usually have P.E. on a Friday.

We do not send homework for Reception children.
