Autumn 1 - Going Wild in the Garden

This is a great topic to get us started. It is all about caring for our own environment (in particular our garden) and the wildlife in it.

For the eagle eyed amongst you, you will have noticed that we have introduced two raised beds into the garden and we intend to prepare them and grow some of our own vegetables this year. We also now have a small apple tree and a plum tree and hope to rebuild our herb garden too. Across in the other corner of the garden is our wildlife corner. We will begin to introduce some more planting here to encourage bees and butterflies next spring- if you would like to donate a small plant to help us do this, then please send it along on the Monday of week 3.

On this day we will have a Garden Day to really get our topic off to a flying start, where all lessons will be held outside of the classroom (lets keep our fingers crossed for good weather!). Children are invited to come into school in their outdoor clothing ready for outdoor activities- it could be sun hats and sunglasses or wellies and raincoats- or even the whole lot!

Art will also play an important role in this term's topic as we learn new techniques and enhance our environment with our own art and decoration. We hope to share our achievements with you in the last week of term- please keep an eye on the newsletter.
