KS2 School Council go to the Dedication of the Gate Guard Spitfire

On Wednesday 23rd November the School Council went to the rededication of the RAF Benson Gate Guardian. The spitfire had been previously taken down and refurbished. It had then been painted in the blue of the Photo Reconnaissance Unit (PRU) and remounted.
We all arrived in time and were quietly positioned so we had a good view of all that was happening. There was a band and a guard of honour.
The Spitfire was rededicated to pilot Flt Lt Duncan McCuaig DFC, who flew for the PRU in the second world war. His daughter Karen MacDonald was present and read a lovely poem.
We then watched Ms MacDonald and the station commander lay a commemorative wreath and then there was a helicopter fly past.
We felt very honoured to have been invited and to have shared such an important event in the station's history.
