Vile Vikings

This term we are INVADING the past and SETTLING into the era of the Vikings!

WHEN? WHERE? WHO? 

We will be finding out who the infamous Vikings were, where they came from, when and why they invaded Britain. Through hands-on learning including art, drama and creative writing, we will exploring what life might have been like as a Viking and about some significant people who rebelled against their rule. 

We will immerse ourselves in Viking legends and folklore, comparing the stories to some of the Greek myths we read last term, as we learn all about Graphic Novels through the story 'Arthur and the Golden Rope'. We will explore the literary affects that help stories come to life and use them to create our own Graphic Novel. We will then explore a non-fiction book 'Viking Voyagers' to strengthen our knowledge and understanding, to enable us to write a set of instructions about 'How to be a Viking!'

In science we will be looking at the properties of everyday materials, designing and conducting our own investigations to find out which materials are magnetic, transparent, insulators and conductors. We will then use our new knowledge in Design and technology, where we will be designing and making a prototype of a newly improved Viking longship, using the most appropriate materials for the job! 

As Christmas fast approaches, we will also be making a selection of TREEmendous goods to sell at our Christmas Fair.
