Autumn 1- Changing Places

Our main topic focus this term is Geography where we will be finding out all about how places develop and change. We will look at natural and man-made influences on a place and thinking about our own local area.

To enhance our understanding and enrich our experiences we will learn about how different artists have portrayed this area.

Our focus is Wittenham Clumps (we chose this because it is such a beautiful place, full of history and natural beauty- but also close enough for you to go and have a look for yourselves). Our chosen artist is Anna Dillon- a Didcot artist who has a beautiful painting style, from which we hope to learn lots!

In keeping with this learning, which centres around nature, we will be learning about flowers and plants in science and planting plants and bulbs in our class garden. This is always a costly thing to do, so if you just happen to put an extra packet of bulbs in your trolley when you next go to the supermarket, we would be most grateful for any donations.

In English this term, our main text is 'The Wild Robot'.

This is a fantastic story, set in an outstanding natural area. It links well with our knowledge of our local area as well as providing us with lots of opportunity for high quality story writing. You may have seen the film when it came to cinemas last year. Expect the book to be a little bit different!
